One of the greatest joys that I have as a writer is the opportunity to connect with children as we share stories of hope and wonder. Together, we travel into the world of reading and writing and picture what our our own stories might be.
Reading, Writing, Kindness
My author visits begin with an exploration of how my childhood experiences with reading and writing influence the stories I write. What happens when we stop to think about a character’s feelings? Do stories —both real and imagined—have the power to make us kinder? And what does this all have to do with being a writer?
With themes of empathy, wonder, and hope — we look at influences on the characters and real-life people I write about. From the beloved Weird! series anti-bullying characters to A Plate of Hope: The Inspiring Story of Chef José Andrés and the World Central Kitchen, there is much to explore!
We discuss the writing process, challenges, and the joy of bringing stories that inspire us to life. Students experience the thrill of getting an inside look at the world behind a story and come away feeling excited to see where their own curiosity might lead.
